Maggie and Charlie’s happy, adventurous, cozy engagement session in Minneapolis

Hello, friends! I am so delighted to introduce you to Maggie and Charlie today and share a few photos from their recent engagement session in Minneapolis!

Maggie and Charlie are planning to get married in late spring/early summer 2021. While they currently live in Iowa as Maggie completes her medical school residency, they said that Minneapolis was actually the backdrop to their love story. They ate at Aster Cafe and walked around the Stone Arch Bridge for their first date, and had their second date on St. Anthony Main as well. They were really excited to do an engagement session right here in Minneapolis where their love began.

Planning Maggie and Charlie’s engagement session

When we were planning Maggie and Charlie’s engagement session, we were really mindful to discuss what covid precautions we would all take to keep the session feeling fun, safe, and stress-free. Maggie and Charlie thoughtfully planned their engagement session for time when they could safely travel to Minneapolis. They said that they love being outside and don’t mind colder weather, so we planned a session for November!

As we talked about ideas for their engagement session, Maggie and Charlie said that they wanted to get some pictures that would have relaxed, date-night vibes, like walking through the cobblestone sidewalks and taking photos in front of the iconic architecture of St. Anthony Main and the Stone Arch Bridge. They wanted these pictures to feel relaxed, happy, and full of nature.

They also wanted to take a few lifestyle photos that felt a little bit more candid, cozy, and tender. They told me that they wanted pictures that really captured their connection as well as their joy. I remember Maggie said, “I really want a picture that shows Charlie’s laugh!” Charlie shared that he wanted pictures of them playing guitar and cards together. All in all, their engagement session had a really fun mix of inspirations.

Happy, adventurous engagement photos on St. Anthony Main in Minneapolis

We decided to start Maggie and Charlie’s engagement session by taking some pictures around St. Anthony Main! Maggie and Charlie arrived with fresh cups of tea, and we took a little time walking along the historic sidewalks and wandering through Father Hennepin Park (right at the edge of the Stone Arch Bridge). We also got a few pictures on the bridge as a little throwback to their first date! It was snowy, bright, and beautiful outside, and the photos from our walk together feel really happy and full of adventure.

Candid, cozy engagement photos in my Northeast Minneapolis studio

We decided to do the second half of Maggie and Charlie’s engagement session at my studio in Northeast Minneapolis! They had seen my studio over Zoom during our virtual planning meeting and said that they really felt that my studio’s brick walls and loft vibes felt true to their aesthetic. They also liked the idea of taking some indoors photos in a large space so that we could keep a safe distance from each other. I love using my studio in engagement sessions, and I was really excited that they loved it, too!

To capture photos with candid, lifestyle vibes, Maggie and Charlie took turns playing guitar and singing to each other (yep, they both play guitar -- how cool is that?!). It was incredibly sweet to watch them take turns serenading each other;  it felt really natural and authentic to them as a couple! I also snapped a few photos of Maggie and Charlie snuggling on the couch and playing cards together as the beautiful window light streamed in around them. It was a really happy, romantic, sweet way to end their engagement session.
