Colton, Jordan, and Grayson Lee’s calm and cozy newborn session at home

As I do with all of my families who opt for an in-home photoshoot, I met Colton and Jordan at their house during our planning session so we could walk through their space together and talk through their hopes. Colton and Jordan knew they wanted their portraits to feel natural, intentional, and authentic to who they are as a couple and as parents. They also love animals and have two big, adorable dogs they wanted to include in the photoshoot, which as a fellow dog lover I always support!

Lauren & Rob’s creative, community-filled wedding at the Hook and Ladder theater

Lauren and Rob wove intentionality and originality into every moment of their wedding day. Thoughtfully discerning which wedding traditions they wanted to create or include, they decided to opt out of having a wedding party or taking getting ready/first look pictures – we started the photography portion of the day with some easygoing portraits of the two of them together. We took some portraits outside the theater on Minnehaha Ave, capturing the liveliness of the neighborhood– the bikes, the colorful mural, the bright sun warming the sidewalk–that has been the landscape of their life together.

Eliza, Isaac, and Freya’s delightful & tender lifestyle session

Eliza and Isaac beamed as they told me how much they have loved watching their daughter Freya’s exponential growth over her first six months. They’ve cherished seeing her blossom and become more and more herself, settling into her unique personality. They wanted to document these special “Freya qualities” they’ve started to see and adore in her– her big, soulful eyes that hold so much wonder for the world around her, her curious hands that are always reaching and grabbing for new objects or for her parents’ embrace…

It’s been a true joy to help Sara and Joe document several big life chapters in their family story. I photographed Sara and Joe’s maternity session when Sara was pregnant with their daughter E, as well as their newborn session after E was born. Most recently, I photographed them for another maternity session, as Sara and Joe are expecting a little one later this spring!

Ashlee, Margaret, and Thea’s delightful outdoor family session

One of the great joys of my work is getting to follow and document a family through multiple seasons in their lives. Ashlee and Margaret are an amazing couple I’ve gotten to work with several times now, photographing their maternity session when Margaret was pregnant and their newborn session after they welcomed their darling daughter Thea into the world. Most recently, we met up to capture their sweet family of three as they celebrated Thea turning one.

Eliza, Isaac, and Freya’s nostalgic newborn session at home

This newborn session took place at Eliza & Isaac’s home, just days before they moved into a new place because of a job transition. It felt really special to document them in the place where they had prepared for their daughter Freya’s birth and welcomed her into the world. The session also created this sweet opportunity for them to slow down, take a breath, and have a calm moment together as a family.

Nicole, Matt, and Parker’s tender newborn session at home

Nicole and Matt are a wonderful, creative couple, and I have had the chance to journey with them through several chapters of life! I  met Nicole during our time together at St. Olaf College, and I had the joy of photographing Nicole and Matt’s whimsical wedding day, which was a blast. Nicole and Matt now have entered another chapter of life as homeowners and as new parents to their sweet son Parker, so I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their growing family in their new home.

Catherine and Ryan's joyful wedding reception full of community

Catherine and Ryan are two incredibly thoughtful people. I had the privilege of getting to photograph their engagement session as well as the small wedding ceremony they held in Stillwater, MN amidst the pandemic, with only a handful of close family and friends. They chose to plan a renewal of vows ceremony and a bigger reception at the Theodore Wirth Chalet exactly one year after their wedding.

Emmett and Ashley's garden wedding in New York

From the beginning of planning their wedding, Emmett and Ashley wanted their day to feel like an authentic reflection of their relationship. They wanted their friends and family (many of whom were traveling from out of town) to get to experience this gorgeous part of New York, and they wanted to create an immersive and happy experience for their guests to relax and celebrate.

They chose M & D Farms in Westerlo, New York for their venue, and its winding gardens and trails were a magical setting. Ashley and Emmett’s entire day had an effortless, elegant feeling to it, and with all of their favorite people gathered into one beautiful spot, these two were basically glowing all day long.

Josephine and Phil’s intentional, adventure-filled wedding on top of a mountain in Oregon

As we talked about Phil and Josephine’s wedding plans and how they envisioned the day, I heard so much about their community - their family and friends, their sweet niblings, their wedding party (which was one big shared wedding party with all of their closest people). They were so excited to be able to gather together with all of their friends and family from different parts of their life to join together, to have a wedding ceremony that invited in all of their community in a setting with a breathtaking view, and to spend the evening celebrating with everyone. These two love nature and their community and each other, and the day they crafted was undeniably special and a true reflection of their values and connection.

Eliza and Isaac’s sentimental, joyful maternity session

Isaac and Eliza are super intentional, reflective, thoughtful people - they have a beautiful connection to each other. As we were planning out their maternity session, we really wanted to center all the feelings they have right now: excitement for this baby coming into their lives and this exciting phase for their family, gratitude for their partnership that they’ve cultivated together, and capturing their relationship together before their baby arrives.

Cat and Aubrey’s happy, laid-back engagement session

Aubrey and Cat wanted their pictures to feel casual and natural, and to document some of their favorite places to hang out together. Cat was really excited to have some pictures that would capture the joyful playfulness of their relationship and the fun that they have, and Aubrey wanted to document their romantic and laid-back side. We decided to pick two unique locations for their session: a brewery for some storytelling, candid-feeling portraits that captured a fun little date vibe, and an outdoor garden setting that documented their love of the outdoors and some springtime flowers!

Catherine and Ryan’s hometown engagement session in White Bear Lake, MN

Catherine and Ryan live in the Washington DC area, and they weren’t going to be home in Minnesota until right before their wedding. They loved the idea of doing an engagement session, though, and decided that doing an engagement session would be a really fun way to kick off their wedding week celebrations!

These pictures are so sweet and special! Doing an engagement session felt like a way for Catherine and Ryan to carve out time for just the two of them and take a little break from the busyness of wedding preparations. The pictures feel like a lovely contrast from their wedding photos, too, and tell more of the story of this chapter in Catherine and Ryan’s daily lives together.
